Liberty has been riding for more than 25 years and has 10 years experience in mounted martial combat disciplines. Liberty has organised and participated in several shows in 2023, including a 5-part Medieval Combat demonstration at the Annual Tarago Show, and a jousting show at the Nowra Show. She also claimed three podium places in 2023, in the jousting tournaments at the Blacktown Medieval Faire (Blacktown, NSW), Keith Ryal Memorial Tournament (Ballarat, VIC) and the Abbey Medieval Festival (Caboolture, QLD). She has been actively instructing for three years, and has participated in more than 50 shows, demonstrations and events in the past five years.
Liberty was the highest placed Australian rider at the IHAA World Championships in Mongolia, September 2023, and placed 25th in the World. In 2019, Liberty was the NSW State Champion, and was named the Victorian State Champion in 2018. Liberty has been a representative of the Australian Horse Archery Association for many years and helped found the longest running NSW Branch under the AHAA. She is currently the Australian Representative on the International Horse Archery Alliance Committee, and is tied in second place with Rodney as the second highest ranking Australian in the World.
Most recently, Liberty won the 2023 National Horse Archery Championships, held in Tarago NSW in November 2023.
Rodney began his riding journey 12 years ago, and took to medieval sports early on in his career, with more than a decade of experience under his belt. Rodney has been instructing and helping others pursue horse archery, skill at arms, jousting and mounted melee, for several years now.
Rodney has been the President of the Australian Horse Archery Association for four years, and has been on the committee since 2017. Also a founding member of the longest running NSW Branch of the AHAA, Rodney has been critical in the current direction and shaping of the AHAA, which is Australia’s largest horse archery association. Rodney was the Team Captain for Australia at the IHAA World Championships in Mongolia, September 2023. He is tied in second place with Liberty as the second highest ranking Australian in the World and is the current 2023 National Horse Archery Reserve Champion. Rodney has organised several top level Horse Archery competitions within Australia in the past years, including the two most recent National Titles, and NSW State Championships.
Rodney and Liberty are active in the world of Living History in Australia as well, and are instrumental in the recent formation of the Company of the Hound, a 15th Century reenactment group in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. Together, they organised the 2023 Tarago Tournament and are setting their sights on an independent festival to be held in the region in the coming months. Both Liberty and Rodney enjoy getting involved in a wide range of reenactment events, and helping others pursue their goals, including kit development and establishment, armoured ground and mounted fighting, and jousting.
Riding With Sticks has been founded in 2023 to help new riders enter into the challenging and exciting world of medieval horse sports, with guidance, safety and encouragement.
